IET announces the release of arXiv content in Inspec

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced that over 30,000 pre-print articles available in online repository arXiv will indexed in Inspec, the leading A&I database for physics and engineering by the end of the year. The addition of these articles will substantially increase the content held in Inspec, which currently holds over 16 million records, and deliver even greater access to cutting-edge research.

Inspec is the first engineering and physics database to index arXiv records, which include open-access e-prints in a variety of disciplines such as Applied Optics, Physics, Astronomy, Circuits and Computer Science. By including arXiv content in Inspec, researchers will now benefit from Inspec’s highly-curated, world-leading thesaurus, allowing users to query the records in a way they have not been able to before.

Tim Hamer, Director of Knowledge at the IET, said: 'The inclusion of arXiv records is a significant addition to Inspec’s already comprehensive database. This forms part of ongoing developments to the Inspec platform, which will make it easier for researchers to pin-point the exact content they need. Our expert team of indexers will bring 100s of person-years of knowledge invested in the IET’s thesaurus to arXiv’s pre-print content while the increased coverage and search functionality will enhance discoverability of arXiv’s open access articles. Combined with the Inspec’s existing content, which dates back to 1898, the arXiv content will help researchers develop an even greater understanding of the context of latest developments in their field.'
