In recognition of the vital role peer review plays in preserving quality and integrity in the physical sciences, IOP Publishing (IOPP) has announced  their outstanding peer reviewers. The Outstanding Reviewer of the Year Awards are given annually to commend top reviewers for their outstanding peer review efforts over the past year.

The reviewers were selected from the more than 27,000 reviewers who submitted reports to IOPP journals in 2022. Recipients were chosen by IOPP’s journal editors based on the number, timeliness and quality of reports completed.

Laura Feetham, reviewer engagement manager at IOP Publishing, said: “We thank and congratulate this year’s outstanding reviewers for their conscientious and dedicated contributions. We are grateful to each and every one of our peer reviewers working tirelessly to protect the integrity of the scientific record and getting great science into the world.”

In 2022, IOPP launched  Peer Review Excellence, the world’s first peer review certification programme dedicated to the physical sciences. More than 10,000 reviewers have now achieved  ‘IOP Trusted Reviewer’ status, which demonstrates an exceptionally high level of peer review competency.

Additionally, IOPP has introduced an online learning hub that offers those wanting to learn to review with confidence a completely free course that can be taken at any time. To date, more than 4,300 researchers have signed up to IOPP’s elearning hub.

“With our peer review training programme, we want to ensure equitable global access to training in peer review,” added Feetham. “Thank you to everyone who provides this valuable service, and congratulations to the winners for this year!”
