SPIE is freezing its subscription pricing at 2010 levels in 2011. This move follows the society publisher's decision last year to drop its prices by 10 per cent from 2009 levels to help research libraries with the economic challenges they are facing.

According to SPIE CEO Eugene Arthurs, SPIE is able to maintain the price rollback programme through 2011 while maintaining services, features, and content, through careful stewardship and with a stable subscription base.

The 2011 pricing freeze applies to current and new subscriptions to the full SPIE Digital Library as well as topical segment subscriptions. It does not apply to print editions of proceedings or journals, or to independent subscriptions to single SPIE journals.

  • SPIE will also launch the Journal of Photonics for Energy in January 2011, and will make the new journal available at no charge throughout the year.
