Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. It's designed to find the information scientists need. Quick, easy and comprehensive, Scopus provides superior support of the literature research process. Above all, it allows you to make the most of the resources that your library has invested in.

It is built to support the way users prefer to do research. They can:

  • Check out what’s hot in a research area by finding the most highly cited articles and authors
  • Find the right person by distinguishing between authors with the same or similar names
  • Stay up-to-date by setting up search and citation alerts using RSS feeds
  • Support grant and tenure applications by tracking citations to articles by year
  • Click straight to the full-text articles by following links to subscribed library resources

Updated daily, Scopus offers:

  • Over 15,000 peer-reviewed titles from more than 4,000 publishers, including coverage
    • 500 Open Access journals
    • 700 Conference Proceedings
    • 600 Trade Publications
  • 29 million abstract records
  • 265 million references, added to all abstracts
  • Results from 265 million scientific web pages via Scirus
  • 18 million patent records from 4 patent offices
  • Seamless links to full-text articles and other library resources
  • Innovative tools that give an at-a-glance overview of search results and refine them to the most relevant hits
  • Alerts to keep you up-to-date on new articles matching your search query, or by favorite author

What do our users say?

“As a researcher writing a grant proposal, you need to be able to identify areas that are just starting to get noticed. Scopus has tremendous ‘peripheral vision’ to find hidden gems that have been overlooked.” Peter Brimblecombe, Professor, Atmospheric Chemistry, School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, UK.

“Scopus is sophisticated and reliable. The paths are logical and users don’t get caught up in confusing layers as in some other databases. The alerts feature is indispensable for serious researchers.” Monique Goël, Head of Information and Research Services, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland.

What does it look like?

The Scopus results page integrates results from 4,000 international publishers, quality web pages, patents and subject databases & repositories (Selected Sources tab).

The Scopus Citation Tracker allows researchers to track what’s hot in an area of research and see trends. The user can choose to evaluate: all of one author’s output, a variety of articles within the same subject area or published literature from a particular year or group of years.
