OvidSP and SilverPlatter
Ovid has expanded the Shibboleth compliance for its two search and discovery platforms to include French and German federations. This means that institutions in France and Germany which are part of the Shibboleth Federation can establish authorisation rights for end users allowing for secure, single sign-on access to important resources on OvidSP and SilverPlatter. This follows the company's announcement last year of Shibboleth compliance with the UK Access Management Federation for Education and Research, which is made up of educational institutions throughout the UK.
Shibboleth aims to help library portals provide uniform and reliable access to the library's electronic subscriptions. When institutions join together in a Shibboleth federation users to get easy single sign-on access to content resources at institutions within the federation.
'As more institutions recognise the value of secure, single sign-on user access and the Shibboleth movement gains momentum all over the world, Ovid is well positioned as a global provider to offer Shibboleth authentication support for any interested federation,' said Andrew L. Popper, vice president of global products at Ovid.
