Encore Discovery from Innovative Interfaces now offers deep article integration to promote the most relevant article content alongside catalogue results. This is said to make articles more findable through facets and other discovery tools. This solution streams enhanced data directly from content providers via Web Services to deliver faster results and a superior user experience, says the company.

'Encore Discovery allows libraries to offer the universe of books and articles while providing discovery tools that ensure user success,' explained John McCullough, vice president, Encore Division at Innovative. 'Encore Discovery reflects the combined intelligence of the library's collection development efforts, controlled vocabularies of both print and electronic articles, along with the intelligence of Encore's search algorithms.'

On an initial search, Encore previews top article results in the catalogue results view, promoting the most current scholarly content on the first page. Encore exposes the abstract content for each article (to aid in evaluation). Whenever possible, a direct link to the full text is also included on the browse display. An articles format facet allows users to focus exclusively on article results, and article-specific facets can refine results to full-text or peer-reviewed materials. Encore also uses its Did You Mean? algorithm to help users clarify and continue searches on the article screen; and a tag cloud driven by library subject headings and community tags guides users to related searches for articles. Deep article integration is available to any library using Encore 3.3 and higher, and the newest features are showcased in Encore 4.0.
