German academic publisher de Gruyter has launched a new publishing model for its journals and book series. With the de Gruyter Open Library, authors can have their work published in a ‘gold’ hybrid model for both books and journals.

For a fee of $2,450 per article authors can provide readers with access to their contributions free of charge on the website www.reference-global.com. This fee is regardless of discipline and length of the publication or whether it is a journal, book series or collected volume. A future adjustment of the product prices is planned if revenues increase by 20 per cent increase through open access.

Sven Fund, managing director of de Gruyter, explained: ‘In the interests of an efficient supply of scholarly information, we wish to create an offer with de Gruyter Open Library, that meets the shifting interests of the authors, customers and partners alike. Regardless of discipline and publication format, we see the transparency of our offer as a prerequisite for the success of future cooperationwith scholars from all fields.’
