Elsevier has launched a new journal, Big Data Research. The first issue is now available for free on ScienceDirect.
Big Data Research was recently launched at the IEEE International Conference on big data in Washington DC. The journal provides a channel for scholarly communication and applications in this broadening and rapidly evolving field of research. It brings together research from the many different communities working on and with big data and it will include both original research papers and review papers covering e.g. developments in big data science.
The journal will be led by renowned experts on data science. Its co-editors-in-chief are Beng Chin Ooi, distinguished professor of computer science at the National University of Singapore, and Zhaohui Wu, executive vice-president of Zhejiang University and director of the Institute of Computer System and Architecture. The journal’s leadership team is completed by five associate editors.
Co-editor-in-chief, Beng Chin Ooi, said: 'Big data techniques and data science heavily influence how we conduct research across various domains in this newly emerging field. Big data research depends on interdisciplinary study and practice that can help data science gain a competitive edge. With this in mind, we aim to promote and communicate advances in big data research by providing a fast, high quality and multi-disciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners and policy makers from the many different communities working on and with this topic.'
Liyue Zhao, publisher of Big Data Research at Elsevier, said: 'We are thrilled to launch this journal. It fulfils a need to promote big data and interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition to being a home to publications on the foundational aspects and common technologies, including big data platforms and applications development, it will publish a number of theme issues for interdisciplinary topics such as Big Geoscience Data, Big Data Meets Economics, Big Data in Biology, Big Data in Finance. We believe this journal will become a high-quality forum of big data.'
