OpenAthens has unveiled the details of its annual Access Lab conference, which takes place online on Tuesday 22 March, from 13:00 – 18:00 GMT.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Enabling the future – managing resources post-pandemic.’ The conference will be hosted virtually for the third year in a row. It will bring together experts from sectors including education and research, healthcare, government, charity, publishing and commercial.

Access Lab has gained a reputation for showcasing debate and discussion on key industry issues affecting the global publishing and library communities. This year’s event will be online and free to attend. The keynote will be delivered by OpenAthens’ commercial director Jon Bentley outlining the future identity Jisc Lifelong Learning Identity project.

Commenting on the event programme, he said: 'Access Lab has become a permanent fixture in the information industry calendar and we are very much looking forward to the 2022 edition. We are expecting attendees from all over the world to join us online, particularly now that the event is free to attend. This removes a barrier to access which is at the core of how we operate as an organisation.

'It is an honor to be able to provide a platform where people can share their views and gain insight on the latest industry issues and topics affecting our ever-evolving sector. The last few years have brought about such a drastic change. The conference will discuss the challenges we now face and how to prepare for a post-pandemic world. We will also showcase session formats from previous years which we know our delegates have found useful.'

The debate-based sessions are always a conference highlight and this year’s panel discussion will be no exception, with the title: ‘The impact of cookie privacy changes on identity services’.

Other confirmed sessions include several on Open Access monographs, discovery services and budget pressures as well as OpenAthens sessions on product strategy and extending customer support.

Also a feature of the event is the Best Publisher UX Awards. Now in its third year, the winner of this year’s accolade will be announced by Jane Charlton, international marketing manager at OpenAthens. Last year’s winner was nkoda for their product and user-centric approach and philosophy.

Attendees can also gain insight through case studies from OpenAthens’ customers and partners, with representatives from the University of Phoenix, Lean Library and EBSCO sharing their personal experiences. Access Lab 2022 is relevant for anyone with an interest in identity and access management. Register your place here.
