Research Square, a for-benefit company with services to help researchers communicate their results, has announced the appointment of Damian Pattinson as vice president of publishing innovation.

Pattinson will oversee strategy for the suite of solutions such Rubriq and JournalGuide that complement Research Square’s author services brand, American Journal Experts, and build towards a future of publishing that is increasingly author-focused and article-based.

'I’m thrilled to be joining Research Square to continue their valuable work in improving how research is communicated worldwide,' said Damian. 'The scholarly literature is already being transformed, but there is still much that can be made better. I am looking forward to developing new tools and services for academics and publishers to continue driving this transformation.'

Prior to joining Research Square, Pattinson was editorial director at PLOS ONE, the world’s largest scholarly journal. In his six years with PLOS, he published close to 150,000 research articles across a wide range of scientific fields from authors around the world. He previously spent several years at BMJ and holds a PhD in neuroscience from University College London.

'I’m excited to have Damian’s innovative spirit and publishing experience on our team,' said Shashi Mudunuri, founder and CEO. 'He is going to play an important role in helping us improve research communication in the direction of the coming article economy.'
