Science publisher AIP Publishing has partnered with Molecular Connections to re-develop its physics-based ontology, classifying and tagging more than a million papers across its entire portfolio.

AIP Publishing’s portfolio includes peer-reviewed journals alongside conference proceedings and magazines. The ontology developed in collaboration with Molecular Connections covers multiple specialty areas within the primary domain of physics, including biological physics, chemical physics and material science, and will be integrated within the publishers’ existing content hosting platform (Scitation) to support content search, retrieval and article recommendations for researchers.

The management system Molecular Connections has developed facilitates indexing, cross linking of articles, real-time addition of new terms to the ontology and linking of metadata to AIP Publishing’s Scitation platform.

John Haynes, chief executive officer at AIP Publishing, said: 'The partnership with Molecular Connections proved to be extremely useful in evolving the current scope of the project. The agility and responsiveness of Molecular Connections was critical in developing our new ontology so quickly; we look forward to working with them on more projects in the future.'

Jignesh Bhate, chief executive officer at Molecular Connections said: 'Our proprietary ontology development and management system and document finger printing system have enabled us to build a robust ontology for AIP Publishing in only six months. The new system will lead to a better user experience for all of AIP Publishing’s readers and authors.'
