Ex Libris has acquired oMbiel, a UK-based SaaS platform provider of mobile and portal solutions for higher education.

CampusM, oMbiel’s flagship product, enables educational institutions to deliver services and information to prospective, enrolled, and graduating students, as well as other campus audiences.

The product aims to offer users a unified digital experience delivered through native apps and web portals. Information is made available on academic affairs, administrative matters, and social activities on campus, including, for example, class schedules, grades, campus maps, library services, and campus events.

It is already deployed at numerous universities in the UK and around the world, with customers including the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Sheffield, and Imperial College London (all in the UK); the University of Canberra (Australia); the University of Cape Town (South Africa); HEC Paris (France); and Queensborough Community College (United States).

'Adding campusM to our portfolio is a natural step in the expansion of the cloud-based offerings of Ex Libris for higher education,' said Matti Shem Tov, Ex Libris president and CEO. 'In addition to helping libraries maximize their efficiency and empowering users to obtain the information they need, we will now support institutions in fostering campus‑wide student engagement on mobile devices. This endeavor will also drive innovative services to libraries and library users.'

In his new role as Ex Libris vice president of mobile campus solutions, Hugh Griffiths, founder and CEO of oMbiel, commented: 'This is very exciting for oMbiel and our customers. Ex Libris shares the same passion for innovation and customer satisfaction as we do, and campusM will benefit from Ex Libris Group’s international presence, the company’s extensive cloud operation, and synergies with other Ex Libris business units.'
