Emerald, which publishes mainly management research, has acquired Elsevier’s social-science book series, serials and monographs.

Cathy Mostyn, director of acquisitions at Emerald, said: ‘We have a well developed schedule to integrate the titles whilst ensuring that customers, authors and editors receive all the support necessary during the transition. The new titles from Elsevier provide a very good fit with our existing portfolio in numerous management subject areas including arts and humanities, business and management, accounting, economics and finance, organisational behaviour psychology, psychology, and social and behavioural sciences.’

Jim Donohue, managing director of science and technology books from Elsevier, added: ‘We are thrilled that these outstanding books will now be published by Emerald who are in the right place to provide excellent service and quality. While Elsevier’s journal programme in the social sciences continues to grow from strength to strength, our book programme will stay focused on the core hard science and technology markets. To ensure continuity of service for online subscribers to these books they will continue to be hosted on Science Direct throughout 2008.’
