Elsevier buys Woodhead Publishing

Elsevier has acquired Woodhead Publishing Limited, a UK-based publisher in the fields of materials science, food science, engineering, energy & environmental technology, textile technology and biomedicine. The acquisition also includes Chandos Publishing, which publishes in library information science and Asian studies.

'After 24 years of building Woodhead Publishing into the successful business it is today, the time has come for me to pass it on to a larger publisher who can capitalise on over 1,500 published titles, a strong forward programme, and our electronic presence,' said Martin Woodhead, managing director of Woodhead Publishing. 'I am very proud that Elsevier, a publisher I much admire for the quality of its publishing and with whom we are a natural fit, will maintain the same high standards of our publishing and take it to a new level both in print and electronic markets.'
