CILIP recognition for Hong Kong courses

Two courses at the University of Hong Kong have received CILIP accreditation, recognising that they provide solid preparation for professional practice and a suitable base for anybody entering the library, information and knowledge management profession.

The Master of Science in Library and Information Management (MSc LIM) and the Bachelor of Science in Information Management (BSc IM) have gained formal CILIP accreditation following the institution’s assessment visit earlier this month.

Helen Berry, CILIP’s development officer for learning providers, said: 'Our first accredited provider in the Far East, The University of Hong Kong is an important addition to a growing global network of learning providers that offer quality assurance for learners pursuing a career in the library, information and knowledge professions.'

Independent assessors praised the variety of learning opportunities offered to the students, joint teaching on modules with professional staff from the university library, and the positive feedback from current students who see the courses as directly relevant to the careers they wish to pursue.

CILIP’s learning provider accreditation programme is designed to help students choose library and information career programmes that cover the essential skills and knowledge, and have been rigorously assessed by CILIP.  Accredited programmes are assessed using the CILIP’s Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB) which identifies the core knowledge and skills of the profession. The University of Hong Kong is the third CILIP accredited learning provider outside the United Kingdom.
