Brill to launch online archive with Ingenta

Share this on social media:

UK online technology provider Ingenta is to host Scandinavian publisher Brill’s back-file of 50,000 articles on its website, IngentaConnect.

The so-called Brill Journal Archive Online will be available in early 2008, making many of the publisher’s 119 publications accessible back to volume 1, issue 1. According to Brill, some of the articles were published more than 100 years ago.

'As online content proliferates, users expect all the articles they need will be accessible electronically,' says Brill's senior vice president of marketing, Steve Dane. 'Studies show that availability of back-files is important for librarians to differentiate between academic journals in an increasingly competitive market place… [while] the digitization of back content can increase citations.'

Ingenta intends to enhance Brill’s articles by adding new features such as web and reference linking. The technology provider will also supply the back-data to Brill's archiving partners to ensure that the content is both immediately available and preserved for perpetuity.
