Bloomsbury Publishing is buying Oxford International Publishers, which trades under the name Berg Publishers. This academic publishing company has a particular focus on books and journals in the fields of fashion, design and culture studies. The initial consideration for the acquisition is said to be £2 million.

This follows Bloomsbury's announcement earlier this month of its own academic imprint, Bloomsbury Academic.

'The acquisition of Berg is an important element in our strategy to increase our presence in academic publishing and take advantage of a market that is already benefiting from electronic delivery and print-on-demand,' said Nigel Newton, chief executive of Bloomsbury.
