ALPSP announces prize winners

The ALPSP 2012 awards were given out at the association's annual conference near Birmingham in the UK today.

The winner of the best new journal category was Postmedieval, which is published by Palgrave Macmillan. Methods in Ecology and Evolution, published by the British Ecological Society, was highly commended.

In the publishing innovation category, Peerage of Science, a scientific peer-review and manuscript-submission system based in Finland, took the top spot. Plantwise Knowledge Bank from CABI was highly commended.

ALPSP also gave a Contribution to Scholarly Publishing award to CrossRef. As ALPSP chief executive Audrey McCulloch explained: 'They are a shining example of just what this industry can achieve when we set our minds to it.'

In accepting the award on behalf of the CrossRef team, Ed Pentz, executive director the organisation, said: 'It's a great honour and great testament to the industry that CrossRef exists and we hope it will be around for many years to come.'
