EDIT: This webcast has now taken place, but is available on catch-up at the link below. Spoiler: it was excellent!

Research Information is delighted to present its latest webcast, entitled Covid-19 and the Future of the Academic Library.

Free to view and open to all our readers, the webcast will focus on how academic libraries have had to change in recent months, on the changes in relationship with other players in the scholarly communications industry, and on the future of libraries in a post-Covid world.

Hosted by Research Information editor Tim Gillett, the hour-long webcast on 18 June will feature librarians from across the world:

• Lisa Hinchliffe, Professor/Coordinator for Information Literacy Services and Instruction in the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the USA;

• Kirsty Merrett, research support librarian for research data management at the University of Bristol, UK; and

• Rossana Morriello, a research support librarian at Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy.

All three have been regular contributors to Research Information over the last few years, and will come together to compare and contrast the situation at their own institutions in the wake of Covid-19, as well as sharing best practice and offering suggestions for moving forward as universities around the world come out of lockdown and move to ‘the new normal’.

Research Information editor Tim Gillett said: ‘The scholarly communications industry has long been in a state of flux with the move towards open access publishing and open research, but the onset of Covid-19 over the past few months has meant institutions have had to rethink their entire way of working, with an acceptance that they may never return to “life as normal”.

‘In this webcast we will attempt to make sense of the situation as it stands in three countries around the world, and provide impartial advice and best-practice recommendation as the world of the academic library moves forward into uncharted territories.

‘We invite not only librarians and information professionals, but researchers, publishers and other commercial operators to join us for what I am sure will be a most entertaining and informative webcast.’
