MDPI has renewed its national agreement with the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (Sikt), extending support for open access publishing across Norway throughout 2026.

The agreement enables participating Norwegian institutions to access discounts on Article Processing Charges (APCs) via MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP), supporting wider dissemination of publicly funded research.

This year also sees Oslo New University College join the partnership, expanding the reach of the agreement and strengthening national collaboration around open access publishing.

By centralising funding, the MDPI–Sikt partnership is designed to help institutions manage open access investment more efficiently while aligning with national open science goals. Participating organisations benefit from streamlined workflows and more cost-effective publishing routes, supporting both sustainability and increased visibility for Norwegian research outputs.

Becky Castellon, institutional partnerships manager at MDPI, said: “We are delighted to extend our collaboration with Sikt and continue supporting the Norwegian research community. Norway has long played a leading role in advancing open science, with initiatives such as Plan S encouraging broader access to publicly funded research. Through this renewed agreement, we look forward to supporting Norwegian institutions and researchers in sharing their work openly and increasing the global visibility of their research.”

The renewed agreement underlines Norway’s continued leadership in open science and MDPI’s ongoing engagement with the Nordic region. Since 2020, more than 9,300 articles from authors affiliated with Norwegian institutions have been published in MDPI journals, reflecting a strong and sustained collaboration between the publisher and the country’s research community.
