Clarivate announces Academic AI Working Group

Clarivate has announced the creation of a new Academic AI Working Group, expanding its engagement with the higher education community as it accelerates the development of AI-driven tools across its Academia & Government portfolio.
The new group builds on the foundation laid by the launch of the Academia AI Advisory Council in July 2024, which was established to engage academic leaders in strategic discussions about the future of AI in research and education. While the Advisory Council focuses on long-term direction and conceptual guidance, the Academic AI Working Group will take a more hands-on role in shaping product design and implementation.
According to Clarivate, the Working Group will bring together up to 15 library and academic professionals from diverse regions, roles and institution types. Members will meet virtually on a monthly basis beginning in April 2026, committing to a two-year term of sustained collaboration. The group will operate in parallel with established community initiatives such as ELUNA, IGeLU and IUG.
The stated aim is to channel practitioner expertise directly into product development, ensuring that Academic AI tools reflect real-world workflows and responsible AI principles. Members will be invited to provide practical input on user experience, AI guardrails and emerging platform capabilities, helping to shape enhancements across Clarivate’s academic solutions, including newer offerings such as Clarivate Nexus.
Clarivate says the initiative is designed to ensure that Academic AI solutions “deliver meaningful value, support confident adoption, and reflect the needs of the communities they serve”. Participants will gain early visibility of forthcoming AI capabilities and opportunities to test new features prior to wider release, as well as the chance to connect with peers globally.
The company is now inviting expressions of interest from professionals actively engaged in areas such as Academic AI, user experience, digital strategy or responsible AI frameworks. Prospective members are asked to contact academiaai@clarivate.com by 4 March.
