Directory of Open Access Journals and Society of China University Journals have announced a new partnership aimed at increasing the visibility and discoverability of high-quality Chinese open access journals both within China and internationally.

As part of the agreement, the two organisations will continue collaborating on the DOAJ China Day event and other promotional activities designed to raise awareness of open access and DOAJ across China. The partnership may also extend to additional project-based initiatives focused on promoting open access and supporting best practices in scholarly publishing.

Joanna Ball, managing director of DOAJ, says: “We are delighted to formalise our collaboration with the Society of China University Journals. This partnership builds on the success of two DOAJ China Day events held in collaboration with CUJS in 2023 and 2025, bringing together journal editors, publishers and infrastructure providers to discuss best practices in open access publishing. China has a rapidly developing open access publishing community, and we are proud that DOAJ now indexes more than 550 journals from China. We hope this partnership will improve awareness of the benefits of open access and best practices in scholarly publishing for journals in China.”

Zhang Tieming, president of CUJS, adds: “After more than 20 years of rapid development, global open access has entered a phase of discussion, storing new power, and waiting for the next upgrading. CUJS and DOAJ strengthening collaboration will provide new support for the quality improvement and scale expansion of the open access movement in China and globally.”
