Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionising academic research and publishing, offering immense potential to save researchers time and reduce their workload. While the benefits of generative AI (GenAI) are quickly becoming apparent, it is crucial for researchers to critically evaluate these technologies. The library as the heart of the institution is uniquely positioned to guide faculty and researchers in the responsible implementation of AI.

Researchers are presented with a diverse array of tools, from big tech chatbots to specialised academic research tools. Beyond conversational discovery and abstract summarisation, AI tools have the potential to significantly enhance the research process in innovative ways. By equipping researchers with the right tools, librarians can ensure maximum value is added to their research endeavours.

In this engaging panel session, we are joined by Ciaran Talbot, Director of Artificial Intelligence and Ideas Adoption at the University of Manchester Library, Dr. Gobinda Chowdhury, Professor of Information Science at Strathclyde University, and Philip Reimann, Product Director for the Web of Science. Our panel will share their insights and experiences in supporting the assessment and adoption of GenAI tools for researchers, and the future of these tools from Clarivate. The session will also feature live Q and A.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the current GenAI landscape encountered by researchers
  • Identify key considerations for evaluating GenAI tools to effectively advise researchers and navigate the expanding field of tools
  • Discover new areas of information literacy instruction that can be implemented at your institution

Join us for an enlightening session that will empower you to harness the full potential of AI in academic research.
