Wiley has announced plans to expand its Advanced Portfolio into the life, health and social sciences, with eight new journals scheduled to launch by the end of 2026 and additional titles planned in subsequent years.

The Advanced Portfolio currently includes more than 25 scientific journals and has historically been associated with materials science and interdisciplinary research. The expansion marks a strategic broadening of scope into areas including oncology, neuroscience, health, technology and society.

One of the first new titles, Advanced Oncology, will open for submissions next month. Further journal launches are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The portfolio includes Advanced Science and Advanced Materials as flagship titles. Wiley states that the expanded programme will apply its existing editorial model across the new subject areas. Under this approach, authors submit manuscripts once, after which editors work across journals within the portfolio to determine placement, with the aim of reducing resubmissions and reformatting.

“For more than 35 years, the Advanced brand has earned researchers’ trust through rigorous standards and collaborative partnerships,” said Allyn Molina, group vice president of publishing development at Wiley. “Researchers have been telling us they need more prestigious yet accessible venues for their breakthrough work, and we listened; this expansion is our answer – launching premium options across every field of science.”

“Our decades-long legacy in the materials sciences has taught us the power of rigorous editorial standards combined with genuine collaboration,” said Kirsten Severing, editor-in-chief of Advanced Science. “We’re applying those same principles – quality, integrity, and interdisciplinary thinking – to these new fields. The goal is to make the Advanced Portfolio a natural home for researchers whose work crosses traditional boundaries.”
