Publishing Gateway and Signals partner on research integrity
Publishing Gateway has announced a strategic partnership with Signals to integrate automated research integrity evaluations into its publishing workflow platform. Consequently, manuscripts submitted through the platform can now be screened for integrity signals before reaching peer reviewers. In addition, published articles will undergo continuous post-publication monitoring.
Publishing Gateway operates as a neutral, institution-first platform designed to provide academic organisations with real-time visibility over their research publishing pipeline. Meanwhile, Signals delivers integrity evaluations of manuscripts by analysing a curated network of the global scholarly record.
Addressing industry concerns over research integrity
The partnership directly addresses growing concerns across the scholarly publishing sector regarding rising retraction rates and peer review manipulation. Furthermore, the collaboration aims to counter the proliferation of compromised research within academic journals.
Signals evaluates submitted papers against its Signals Data Graph, which covers more than 500 million publications. Its Manuscript Checks tool applies over 30 automated integrity checks to incoming submissions, delivering detailed evaluations within minutes. As a result of this integration, academic institutions and publishers gain an extra layer of screening at every stage of the editorial process.
Strengthening editorial confidence across the research pipeline
Philip Hess, Chief Executive Officer of Publishing Gateway, emphasised that research integrity must be embedded directly into institutional workflows.

Signals recently secured $1.1 million in seed funding backed by ACS Publications and Enago. Consequently, the company is rapidly expanding its work with publishers, platforms, and researchers globally to handle manuscript evaluation at scale.
This partnership combines Publishing Gateway’s AI-powered journal matching platform with real-time integrity screening from Signals. Ultimately, the initiative aims to establish a new benchmark for technology-led responsible publishing.
