EBSCO “reaffirms support to libraries’ diverse acquisition needs”

EBSCO Information Services has released a statement “reaffirming its commitment to supporting libraries with diverse acquisition needs”.
Following yesterday’s announcement by Clarivate that it is launching a subscription-based access strategy, EBSCO has pledged to continue to offer perpetual access to e-books, print book fulfilment, and flexible acquisition models like evidence-based acquisition (EBA) and demand-driven acquisition (DDA).
“As providers in the library market shift their strategies, libraries will need to search for reliable alternatives,” the company stated.
Jon Elwell, Senior Vice President of Books at EBSCO Information Services, said: “EBSCO provides libraries with the resources and flexibility they need to best serve their patrons. We understand that perpetual access, print collections, and adaptable acquisition models are critical components of a thriving library ecosystem. EBSCO has a long-standing commitment to these services, and we have no plans to discontinue them.”
As reported in Research Information, Clarivate’s new approach, which will be introduced throughout 2025, will also phase out one-time perpetual purchases of digital collections, print and digital books for libraries.
