Clarivate to close Research Professional News
Clarivate has announced that it will discontinue publication of Research Professional News, with the final edition scheduled for 31 December 2026.
In a statement to readers, Emmanuel Thiveaud said the decision reflects the company’s strategic focus on its core research intelligence and workflow businesses.
“Clarivate has decided to discontinue publication of Research Professional News, with the final publication scheduled for December 31, 2026,” he said.
The company confirmed that previously published content will remain freely accessible after publication ceases.
“Past content will remain available and freely accessible to readers and the wider research community. We hope Research Professional News will continue its legacy of informing and supporting the research community long after publication ends.”
Thiveaud acknowledged that the decision would disappoint many readers, contributors and partners, describing it as “a difficult decision to make”.
“As a business, we must focus on our core offering: the expert data, insights and analytics, workflow solutions and services that help institutions and researchers navigate an increasingly complex research environment,” he said. “The challenges of sustaining a specialist journalism offering in today’s environment are significant, and the closure reflects those longer-term realities.”
Thiveaud added: “Research Professional News has earned a strong reputation over three decades for authoritative, high-quality reporting and analysis across the complex landscape of research policy, funding and higher education. I want to take this opportunity to recognise and thank the highly professional, award-winning editorial team whose work has informed and supported the global research community over many years.”
The publication’s final edition will be published on 31 December 2026, after which its archive will remain available to readers.
