Bloomsbury opens office in Singapore

Bloomsbury has announced the opening of an office in Singapore, marking a further step in the publisher’s expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.

The launch of Bloomsbury Singapore establishes an editorial and commercial base within one of Asia’s most dynamic academic hubs. Alongside existing operations in India and Australia, the office is designed to support continued growth in regional sales and strengthen Bloomsbury’s engagement in a rapidly expanding higher education market.

Nigel Newton, Founder and Chief Executive of Bloomsbury, said the move reflects the company’s long-term commitment to Asia: “I am pleased to announce the opening of our new base in Singapore. Whilst we have sold books and digital resources in Asia for many years, having an editorial base in Singapore and tailored content will allow us to strengthen local partnerships, expand our activity in the region and capitalise on the growing student population. Singapore is a thriving and dynamic country, and we are excited by the opportunities this new office will bring as our base for Bloomsbury expansion throughout Asia.”

Growth projections underscore the strategic importance of the region. The World Bank estimates that the global higher education student population will rise from 264 million in 2023 to 600 million by 2040, with more than 60% of those students based in Asia.

In its initial phase, the Singapore operation will focus on developing closer direct relationships with higher education institutions and commissioning content tailored to Asian markets. This material will be delivered primarily through Bloomsbury Digital Resources.

Jenny Ridout, Managing Director of Bloomsbury Academic and Professional, highlighted changing demand within the region: “We are seeing real appetite in the area of law, education, arts and humanities as academic institutions move beyond their STEM focus in the Asia Pacific region. Our presence in Singapore will enable us to forge deeper publishing partnerships, respond to a rapidly changing market and ensure that our publishing is tailored to the needs of students and scholars in the region.”
