COUNTER launches education programme

COUNTER Metrics, the global standard for usage metrics, has announced the launch of the COUNTER Academy.

This is a new education offering for 2025 and comes in response to requests from the COUNTER community for more in-depth training.

The COUNTER Academy will start in July and will run online for 16 weeks. Over the course of eight modules, participants will learn about the need for normalised metrics, what COUNTER is, and how to use it.

Participants will explore the technical aspects of COUNTER such as attributes, extensions and using the validation tool. They will look at how to get COUNTER reports and how to use them; using the COUNTER API; and combining COUNTER with other data. In addition, the course will look at open access data; using COUNTER to understand impact; and what lies ahead for COUNTER in the future.

Tasha Mellins-Cohen, executive director, said: “Our community have been asking for in-depth COUNTER training for years, and we’re delighted to be able to support them through the new Academy programme. We’ve been working on the content for some time, and can’t wait to launch with our first cohort of participants in the summer.

The COUNTER Academy is only available for members and in 2025 we are limiting numbers to 25 participants. There is also an opportunity for publishers to sponsor librarian places on the COUNTER Academy.

For more information and to register for interest ahead of registration opening in May, please see our COUNTER Academy page.
