IOP Publishing (IOPP) has integrated the IPregistry.org API as part of its ongoing approach to delivering secure, accurate and streamlined access to published content.

The new integration enables automated Internet Protocol (IP) address updates to flow directly from the IPregistry.org into IOP Publishing’s systems, ensuring uninterrupted access for users, reducing the risk of authentication errors and saving librarians significant administrative time. With around 90% of usage coming from institutional access, maintaining accurate authentication data is essential for preserving seamless access and maximising the value of IOPP content.

Institutions update their IP addresses as networks evolve, for example when changing providers, restructuring systems or bringing new sites online. Each month, theIPregistry.org processes more than 1,200 amendments from across the global community, validating every change through rigorous background checks before sharing verified data with publishers. This automated integration enhances data accuracy and reduces the administrative burden for both libraries and publisher teams.

Andrew Pitts, CEO of theIPregistry.org, said: “Accurate IP data is essential for facilitating legitimate access to scholarly content, and our partnership allows libraries and IOP Publishing to work together more efficiently and securely. Through automation and verification, we remove the friction from IP management and support a smoother experience for everyone involved.”

Matthew Keen, Product Manager at IOP Publishing, said: “We always strive to optimise our systems to meet market demand, enhance discoverability and support greater research impact. The integration of theIPregistry.org with our systems will greatly benefit our institutional customers in establishing a seamless access experience and maximising customer usage.”
