On demand webinar: Is there a systemic problem with ebooks?

Earlier in 2022, the Library Association of Ireland hosted a booked-out online seminar to discuss the ebooks crisis and subsequently stated that there is a ‘systemic’ problem with the provision of ebooks.

With many researchers and students being forced to resort to electronic versions of books during the pandemic – and an ongoing trend towards the digital format – many universities, particularly those with smaller library budgets, are finding they can no longer afford to provide the publications their patrons require.

What did we discuss?

  • The true cost of the move to e-books for academia
  • How e-books have and will affect academic libraries in the future
  • What needs to be done to ensure that they can meet their users’ needs
  • How the sector can work together to ensure equity and sustainability

Who should watch?
Librarians and academics affected by ebook pricing, and all those who want to stay informed on what is an important and ongoing issue affecting much of the academic publishing sector.
