Publisher Adam Matthew, part of SAGE, is releasing China, America and the Pacific a new digital collection of 18th and 19th century English-language primary sources covering the early development of trade and cultural relations between North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Sourced from 12 North American libraries that include the Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum and the Massachusetts Historical Society, the new collection is said to offer unique insights into the history of North American trade. Coverage includes the Old China Trade, the Pacific Northwest fur trade, the whaling industry and the development of Pacific trading centres such as Hawaii.

To aid teaching and research, China, America and the Pacific offers additional resources, including: a chronology charting key dates and significant events connected to the history of the China trade; interactive maps tracing major routers and historic voyages; and access to hundreds of visual images presented in online exhibitions and visual galleries.
