Caitlin Cornish joins Emerald

Caitlin Cornish, former publishing director for Palgrave Macmillan, has joined Emerald as head of books publishing.

Emerald says the appointment forms part of an investment in a new programme of academic and professional books and monographs designed to bring the very latest ideas and approaches to global universities, researchers, students and practitioners.

Cornish was integral to the merger of Palgrave Macmillan and the Nature Publishing Group – after which she was vice president the economics, business, statistics, finance, mathematics and law programmes, with responsibility for books and journals.

Tony Roche, publishing director at Emerald, said: 'Caitlin has a superb reputation in our industry, with a track record for driving and delivering books programmes globally.

'We're delighted that she will lead the expansion of Emerald’s books business, a key part of our strategy to provide customers with quality research for management practice, putting Emerald at the heart of management learning.

'The book remains a key method of communication for the communities Emerald serves, alongside conference presentation, journal and case study dissemination.  

Cornish began her publishing career with Macmillan Publishers before moving to Wiley (later Wiley Blackwell), where she became editorial director for the Wiley Finance programme.  

From Wiley, she moved to Palgrave Macmillan to head up the academic, professional and reference books teams for humanities and social sciences in the UK, US and Asia – during which her team more than doubled growth over a four-year period – before becoming publishing director.

Cornish added: 'I’m joining Emerald at a very exciting time, as it looks to really ramp up its books programme.
