F1000 has announced two key appointments within its ranks.

The Wellcome Trust’s former head of evaluation, Liz Allen, has joined the organisation as director of strategic initiatives.

The Wellcome Trust is one of the world’s largest biomedical research charities, where Allen developed infrastructure to support research governance, progress monitoring and impact assessment, and shape funding programme evaluations to support research strategy.

Bev Acreman, former vice president of marketing and sales for open research at Springer Nature, has been appointed commercial director and is due to start in April.

At Springer Nature Acreman's role included a focus on collaborating with Chinese funders and universities to build a solid infrastructure and understanding of open access. Prior to that, She headed up the commercial division at the first open access publisher, BioMed Central, where she built up its international sales, marketing and customer service teams

F1000 (the Faculty of 1000) is a community of more than 10,000 biomedical experts who help scientists to discover, discuss and publish research. The organisation provides personalised recommendations from the faculty of the world’s best biomedical research articles; rating them and providing short explanations for their selections.
