Rowman & Littlefield has appointed Oliver Gadsby president of its academic and professional division.

Commenting on the appointment, group president and CEO Jed Lyons said: 'Our company has reached a significant scale in a number of market segments, and we need the right leadership to drive our business in each area. Following the appointment of Jim Childs to head our Trade division, we are delighted to have Oliver Gadsby in place to run our Academic and Professional operations.  These markets are global in nature, and I’m pleased that Oliver will bring substantial international experience to bear in this new role.'

The company has consolidated a number of historic imprints under the core Rowman and Littlefield brand, and it publishes textbooks, reference materials, professional development books and monographs, as well as non-fiction titles for a more general audience. The publishing team is based in Lanham, New York, and Boulder, Colorado.

Gadsby, who founded Rowman & Littlefield International in 2013, said: 'Rowman & Littlefield has carved out an admirable position as an independent publisher of scale and ambition, and I have been pleased to get to know its fine creative team.

'I look forward to playing my part in leading it through a process of development and growth; Academic and Professional markets are changing a great deal at the moment, and we will need to be agile and responsive as we build our offerings for customers in the US and internationally.'
