University of South Carolina (USC) in the USA has selected EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) with Encore as its discovery service. The university said that it was looking for a single search box for its users but also wanted the flexibility to have more advanced options.

According to EBSCO and Innovative Interfaces, which provides Encore, the EDS/Encore partnership also allows libraries to maximise their investments in multiple resources in a single search experience. USC trialled many discovery services to find the right discovery solution to service the varying needs of their users.

‘Based on feedback from our librarians and library staff, USC found that the EDS/Encore combination was the right fit,’ said Paul Cammarata, assistant collection development librarian at USC. ‘ The USC system consists of Columbia and seven other campuses throughout the state and our libraries’ needs and demands vary greatly. Flexibility was very important to us and Encore/EDS gave us that, both on the front end as well as the back end with the Admin module.’

He added: ‘Our workforce and campuses are quite familiar with EBSCO and Innovative. This was a major factor. Workload amounts and time are major issues for us. We didn’t want to have to start all over and EDS/Encore allowed this.’
