The Vatican Library has made its first digitised manuscripts available online. According to Cesare Pasini, prefect of the Vatican Library, writing in the library's January newsletter, 'they are the first 256 of a great multitude, and they are available directly from the Digitised Materials link on our homepage.'

In a recent interview on Vatican Radio, Pasini said it had taken two years to make the first selection of manuscripts available online. The majority of the documents have been digitalised as a result of a joint project with the University of Heidelberg, Germany. The library is also involved in a similar project with the Bodleian Libraries in Oxford, UK to make more of the material available as soon as possible.
