Palgrave Macmillan is now offering authors and their funders the option to publish open-access (OA) research in its journals, monograph and Palgrave Pivot publications.

The new model, Palgrave Open, will publish all OA content under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence. Alternative Creative Commons licences are available to authors on request, says the publisher.

The opportunity to publish open access will be available to all authors once their research has been approved for publication. Authors can opt to pay a publication charge in order for their research to be made freely available. Palgrave Open content will be freely available and searchable via Palgrave Macmillan’s journals website or e-book platform, Palgrave Connect.

Sam Burridge, managing director, Palgrave Macmillan said: 'Palgrave Open is a timely and exciting initiative for the humanities and social sciences, a community that has not hitherto found itself significantly involved with open-access models. Palgrave Macmillan is taking the lead in responding to the community’s request for an alternative publishing model to sit alongside traditional methods. It is important that we are at the forefront of exploring sustainable publishing solutions for our authors and the academic community.'

Palgrave Macmillan says that it plans to expand this OA offering in 2013 with the launch of a fully open-access journal, accepting articles from across the humanities and social sciences.
